Nativity St. Vincent de Paul - Charity Notes
Nativity Poor Boxes are newly labeled. At each church entrance, there is a slot on the wall for charity donations. This money is used locally to support our SVdP Society and local families. In addition to the Thanksgiving Day Mass collection and the Christmas project for individual families, our only other monetary resources are donations from generous parishioners. We are currently low on funds for the rest of the year, hint, hint (not in emergency mode but being supported by 2 SVdP members).
Other Programs - we collect: clothes (blue bins in lower parking lot), recent magazines for nursing homes (purple bin at church school-side entry), small bags of food (for locals, same church entry), gift cards (rectory office), Thanksgiving food drive, Christmas gifts.
Need of Volunteers for Nativity St. Vincent de Paul Society
Men and Women, recent ages 1-88. Volunteer jobs (3 types; training provided): (1) Executive committee and Board members perform the charity work and financial oversight and decisions (meeting monthly and by phone as needed). Nursing Home visitors (in pairs, 2 hrs): (2) Sacred Heart Home at Brothers of Mercy monthly on last Sunday; (3) Harris Hill Nursing Home monthly, custom-tailored schedule each month. How does this differ from Catholic Charities? Catholic Charities has responsibility over many groups. Their specialty is counseling and finding resources. When their client needs food, clothing, furniture, goods, or money, they call St. Vincent downtown who then calls the client’s nearest SVdP parish/president. The local board decides how to proceed and contacts the client. Last year, Nativity helped more than a dozen families, and 3 families progressed to independence.
