Back Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Monday, April 8, 2019
From the Desk of Fr. Ron…….
Many of us have had the experience of “fair weather friends.” They are often with us, around us and for us when things are going well for us. These same friends are often silent and nowhere to be found when situations become difficult for us in our lives. Our Church begins our “high holy days” with the joy of welcome of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem. This welcome is memorialized in our yearly celebration of Palm Sunday. All His “fair weather friends” are in attendance, welcome Him, and are happy to join in the festivities. These are the same friends who, not in the too distant future, will join the crowd to shout: “Crucify Him!” Thus, another name for this Sunday we celebrate is “Passion Sunday.” It doesn’t take long for cut palms to dry out. It doesn’t take long for surface deep friends to abandon us and run with the crowd. May the lived reality of Jesus’ passion and death help us realize that He is truly, “one with us in all things, but sin.” With mindful reflection let us embrace these high holy days. Let us see ourselves within the various characters whom we mee,t as we mediate upon this crucial time for Jesus and His ministry. Let us make the journey to die with Him, so as to rise with Him in glory.
