Grade 9 - Freshmen

In 2011-2012, our 9th graders will attend 12 classes divided into two sessions.

Principles of Catholic Social Teachings

The students are challenged in this secular world of gathering an abundance of material possessions and putting oneself first.  They will investigate and become aware of injustice.  The text used is Justice and Peace and some of the topics will include:

  • God's Love:  Foundation of Justice
  • The Church:  Called to Work for Justice
  • Poverty In The U.S.:  A Scandal we can Overcome
  • Global Poverty:  Making Interdependence Work
  • Race:  Beyond Stereotypes

The students will attend a multi-cultural mass at St. Martin dePorres, the African-American parish in our diocese.

There will be speakers addressing the following topics:

  • Living a Simple Life
  • Response to Love
  • Domestic Violence
  • Experience of Living with Farm Hands

This is the year we focus on opening their eyes to the poverty and misery other human beings experience.

Grade 10 - Sophomores

In 2011-2012, our  10th graders will attend 11 class sessions beginning October 23rd through January 22nd.

The Light of Faith: An Overview of Catholicism

This course will open our youth to God's gift of faith.  It is our hope to bring reality and meaning to a faith that will shape their lives and encourage them to remain faithful.

The Light of Faith will examine the truths of the Catholic Church in both the Apostle's and Nicene Creeds.

Several classes will focus on Christian Morality with open discussions regarding sexuality, right to life, death penalty, and other topics addressing human dignity.
